SHIELD (Safety Helmet Identification and
Emergency Lifesaving Data) Program stores
potentially life-saving information in your
child's bicycle or sports helmet. In the
event of an accident, medical personnel have
immediate access to your child's personal
information. Ambulance officers can simply
remove the helmet, detach the SHIELD ID Tag
from inside, and are then better prepared
to immediately give the child the best possible
medical treatment without delay. Each SHIELD
ID Tag is completed by the parent or guardian,
sealed in a plastic pouch, and attached inside
the crown of the helmet. No one can read
the child’s personal information without
removing and opening the plastic pouch. The
SHIELD Alert Sticker is attached on the outside
of the helmet to notify emergency personnel
of the child’s participation in the program.
